Abstract:
The drought monitoring technology on the base of remote sensing information and data of routine agrometeorological observation was developed within the Institute of Agricultural Meteorology (Russian Federal Service on Hydrometeorology and Environment Monitoring). The data from AVHRR were the source for calculation of NDVI and brightness temperature. The ground data (soil moisture of layers 0–50 and 0–100 cm, precipitation, air temperature, etc.) were used for calibration of the satellite data.

The test of the above technology gave the results to be promising for detecting dry and extremely dry conditions over the large territories.
